All You Need to Know About Speech Sounds ã A TRAINING CD-ROM FOR TEACHERS AND AIDES OF EARLY YEARS STUDENTS
Why
Why might a child write "bag" for "back"? How would you help prevent the student from making this type of error again? Why might a child write "wif" for "with"? How would you assist them in getting the right spelling?
YOUR FEEDBACK TO A STUDENT SHAPES THEIR LEARNING... As teachers of literacy, it is important to try and look at learning to read and spell from a bottom-up approach (child's view) rather than a top-down approach (a literate adult's point of view). We need to know sounds inside out and back to front to be able to talk about them explicitly to children. Having a good understanding of speech sounds and their features, can help us figure out why certain errors are occurring in a student's writing attempts. An understanding of sounds is called PHONEMIC AWARENESS . Phonemic Awareness can be taught and is an integral part of every good early literacy program. TEST YOUR OWN PHONEMIC AWARENESS SKILLS.... (Contact me and I'll email you the answers! lucia@pelicantalk.com ) If we are already literate, we don't often think of this very early step in learning to read and write. Many teachers find that they have to go back and brush up on their phonemic awareness skills in order to teach it to their students... All You Need to Know About Speech Sounds ã comes on a CD-ROM. It is a self-directed workshop/inservice that needs about 1.5 hours to run. It can be done with a group of teachers or individually. It contains:
COST : AU$65.00 Click Here for More Details About the CD-ROM * The Speech Sound Set is used within the training as a fun way to think about speech sounds. (The alternative was phonetic symbols at which many people balk!) The Speech Sound Set is a recommended purchase that can be used by teachers and aides within their classrooms following the training, however it is not a necessary purchase. The Speech Sound Set Flashcard Set is a handy teacher resource that some less computer-savvy teachers prefer. * |
