AUTISM RESOURCES
The resources below are used
regularly and successfully with verbal children who have autism to develop
their expressive language skills and the clarity of information they
convey. They are also great for working on receptive language.
Both resources are suitable for children aged 4 years - 12 years
(depending on ability) and are easy enough to use at home. They come with
pages of suggestions for adapting the resources to your child's individual
needs. Each program is extremely affordable and versatile. (Free
article and pictures - see below).
MY FIRST BARRIER GAMES
AU$45
This resource is particularly
good for children with autism as it not only works on concept
development (big, small, top, bottom and so on), but it also teaches
the notion of referential communication - that is, the idea that a
listener does not automatically know what you are thinking. The barrier
encourages a child to
make their messages clear enough so the other person, relying on the
verbal message alone, can understand. Barrier games put the focus on
careful listening and clear expression.

FUN WITH SEQUENCES
AU$30
This resource develops the concept of order and
sequence. It is unlike some sequence activities in that there are
optional endings for some of the sequences - the child can choose an
end to the story. The pictures can be printed out and made into cards or
inserted into slideshows if your child likes computers. Fun with Sequences
teaches
time concepts as well, such as first, next, finally and so on.

LANGUAGE SCENES - THE
FUN PARK
AU$45
The
ultimate language resource. Activities in this language pack promote
understanding of feelings, observation of context, responding to
multi-level questioning, guessing others' thoughts... and LOADS more. Kids
love this one! Great for children who love detailed visual pictures.
