SOUND SEGMENTER©
An essential hands-on resource for blending & segmenting practice. This resource can be initially used in the first year of school after basic letter-sound relationships have been established. It provides plenty of opportunities for young learners to master two of the most important phonemic awareness tasks: sound (phoneme) segmenting and sound (phoneme) blending. Sound Segmenter © is divided into four units, each increasing in level of difficulty. The activities can be completed in small groups, or as a whole class, using an interactive whiteboard * Unit One focuses on regular consonant-vowel-consonant words. * Unit Two focuses on regular consonant-vowel-consonant words that include digraphs (sh, th, ch or ng) * Unit Three focuses on initial and final blends (st, pr, nt etc…) * Unit Four focuses on common vowel digraphs (or, oa, ow etc…) For each unit, there are two components: printable fold-over cards and circle strips (above) and a PowerPoint TM slideshow containing many pictures and their corresponding graphemes (below). Consonant and vowels sounds are colour-coded. You receive : - 160 fold-over cards to print. These are cards that fold in half to stand on a table. On one side they show a picture, on the other they show each phoneme's letters written within a circle and then the full word. - strips of circles to print and laminate and write on - a whiteboard marker with eraser -a set of “sound stones” (in four colours) - 4 PowerPoint slideshows - an instruction booklet . SOUND SEGMENTER COMES ON A CD-ROM. $65
